More than 80 guests came together to celebrate the official opening of the redeveloped Chesalon Services Illawarra day centre during February.

Built at the location which has been home to Chesalon Services programs for many years, the new centre replaces a church hall dating from the 1950s. The knock-down and rebuild was funded by the State and Federal Governments.

Speaking at the opening, ANGLICARE CEO Peter Kell said: “We are proud to unveil our new facility in Mt Ousley which has been purpose-built to care for the needs and interests of people who are living with a dementia-related illness. A lot of thought went into ensuring this new centre has all the right elements. I think the team has successfully created a home away from home that also works as a community hub for carers who may otherwise feel isolated in their role.”

“What makes Chesalon Services special is the team’s commitment to Christian care – sharing the burdens of care and doing it in a way that brings hope and pleasure into people’s lives.”
