Alan's life changed when a stroke left him with short-term memory loss and visual impairment. He was referred to Anglicare's community aged care services in Sydney's North where staff worked with him and developed a plan to provide increased socialisation, mental stimulation and physical exercise. Alan's vast command of general knowledge also proved an asset in word games and crosswords, allowing him to feel a sense of accomplishment. He became an enthusiastic participant in our centre's new Men's Shed and his skills as a former industrial arts teacher really shone. Through his involvement in our program, Alan has been able to develop caring friendships and feel a sense of community again.
