Over the last few years, ANGLICARE Family Services Liverpool, has identified a gap in helping clients with low income. There have been situations where they need to purchase household goods and services but some of those necessary items fall outside the guidelines for the Emergency Relief programs. To meet these needs a No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) has been set up.
NILS offers these individuals and families the opportunity to access credit for certain essential household items without the added worry of fees, charges or interest payments. As loans are repaid, the money is lent out to other members of the community to utilise this service.
From March 2010, ANGLICARE Liverpool Area NILS® will be offering support for individuals and families in the Liverpool area. Enquiries can be made to ANGLICARE’S Sally Lockeridge on 9821 1014.
ANGLICARE would like to acknowledge and thank the support of Good Shepherd who promotes social justice and for their tireless work in NILS®. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the financial support of NAB and the Ian Potter Foundation who provided the capital funding for ANGLICARE Liverpool Area NILS® without whom this would not be possible.
Liverpool joins the Community Care Centres of Mt Druitt and Nowra offering this type of support to our low income clients.
