In the latter part of 2010 ANGLICARE released two important research reports: Care to Live or Live to Care? and Long Way Home? The first report provides insights into the experiences of older parent carers based on a survey of nearly 300 carers and the second report looks at the plight of African refugees in Western Sydney who face significant housing insecurity.

Key insights in these reports are:

  • Of those carers surveyed, one in five is older than 80 years

  • More than 80% percent of parent carers are women

  • Just over one third of carers have been in a caring role for over 40 years

  • Most African families surveyed by ANGLICARE had to move house approximately every six months

  • There is a chronic shortage of public housing which complicates pathways for refugees finding a home

  • The barrier of language debilitates refugees finding housing in an already complicated system

If you would like a copy of these reports, they can be accessed from our website: www.anglicare.org.au or you can order a copy by phoning our hotline on 13 26 22.
