On 30 July ANGLICARE had the privilege of celebrating four outstanding volunteers who have been with Chesalon Woonona for more than 50 years: Beryl Clarke, Barbara Scott, Daphne Hicks and Laurel Addlington.
ANGLICARE CEO, Grant Millard spoke about their remarkable achievements in volunteering since the 1960s. Between the four of them, they have celebrated over 200 years of volunteering. Marie Cummins, Chesalon Woonona Manager, also noted that they not only give of their time but also they give from their hearts. She spoke of how these wonderful ladies help in a wide variety of ways, visiting the residents and assisting in whatever way they can.
The ladies themselves shared some precious memories including times of sitting in the porch and peeling vegetables for the residents of the nursing home and of dressing up for Christmas plays as reindeer or even a Christmas tree on one occasion. They also shared some funny incidents, including one from Laurel Addlington who remembered that at one fete they sold various items such as jams and chutneys. She was so successful that not only did she sell everything on the table, bus she also managed to sell the table cloth! This was a little embarrassing as the owner of the cloth came to back later in the day to claim it.
It was truly a memorable day of celebration.
Thank you to all ANGLICARE volunteers whether you have been with us for 1 or 50 years. You are all heroes!
